JACOB MILLER TO BE “GUEST OF HONOR” AT REBEL SALUTE JANUARY 16-17!

Jacob Miller, one of the most influential singers in reggae, will be ‘guest of honor’ at next year’s Rebel Salute which takes place January 16-17 at Richmond Estate in Priory, St. Ann. Chief organiser Tony Rebel says it is a “great privilege” to pay homage to the chunky vocalist who was killed at age 27 in an auto accident in 1980. The Miller segment will feature Inner Circle and Third World, two bands Miller was closely associated. Both appeared on Rebel Salute in 2006 when it was held at Kaiser Sports Club in St Elizabeth.  Jacob Miller— PROMOTERS of the annual Rebel Salute show will pay homage to influential roots singer Jacob Miller during its 2015 renewal which takes place January 16-17 at Richmond Estate, St Ann. Chief organiser Tony Rebel told the Jamaica Observer that Inner Circle, the band Miller was lead singer of during the mid and late 1970s, will be a key part of the tribute. So too, Third World whose members were also closely associated with him. Miller, one of the stars of the 1970s roots-reggae explosion, died in 1980 in an auto accident at age 27. BILLBOARD MAGAZINE SAYS AMERICAN REGGAE ACTS OUT-SELL THEIR JAMAICAN COUNTERPARTS!

Chronixx– By Shereita Grizzle— In June, Billboard disclosed some news that many may have found surprising, or perhaps not. The website revealed that United States (US) reggae acts were outselling their Jamaican counterparts, by comparing the number of Jamaican acts that have singles or albums on their charts to the number of US acts also making the list. If you thought the June findings were a hoax, the website did yet another comparison which yielded similar results. The recent findings show five American reggae acts occupying the top 10 positions on the Reggae Album chart for the week ending September 13. SOJA’s Amid The Noise and Haste has held the top slot for the past three weeks, selling a total of 16,083 units, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
