FORMER LEAD SINGER FOR THE WAILERS, ELAN, RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE “WICKED GAME!”

Elan Atias— During his 13-year association with The Wailers, singer Elan Atias worked with a diverse list of acts, from Gwen Stefani to Carlos Santana. For his latest project, he covers Wicked Game, American rock singer Chris Isaak’s breakthrough song. His reggae version was released digitally last week. Elan, as he is known professionally, said his decision to revisit the 1990 hit was spontaneous. “I was in the studio with one of my producers, Thomas, and he played a reggae track that sounded like Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game, so I decided to record a version of the song to that track,” Elan told the Jamaica Observer. “I replaced the original song’s signature slide guitar sound with a saxophone doing the parts as I thought it fit better.” The song is intended for his fourth solo album, scheduled … Read entire article »

VETERAN SAXOPHONIST HEADLEY BENNETT DIES AT 85!

Headley Bennett— KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Saxophonist Headley Bennett, who played on “Judge Not,” Bob Marley’s first song, has died at age 85, his family said Monday. His daughter Carol Bennett did not give an official cause of death, but said Bennett had suffered from high blood pressure and was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. She said he died Sunday. COMMENTARY BY AUBREY CAMPBELL: JAMAICA STRONG AND GOLDEN!

Gentle folks, it’s another great day to be a Jamaican, living in these United States of America. God is good, but let me be clear. I am not a USA hater, I just can’t bet against my countrymen and women in sports and especially track & field athletics. You are always warned of the danger of, ‘staying on the cow’s backside and a cuss it/him’, so I have to tread carefully, here! Never mind queen ShellyAnn’s tears or the disappointment of Yohan, in the sprints which concluded in a flash of brilliance that will forever light up the annals of track & field athletics, globally. Last evening, after a four day tour of New York City and parts of Westchester County, I found myself in a little nook inside the Queens Center … Read entire article »

SPORTSCASTER BOB COSTAS SETS OFF A FIRE STORM BY SAYING “USAIN BOLT IS BIGGER THAN BOB MARLEY!”

There are three reasons Bob Costas went too far amid his Usain Bolt hagiography. Bob Marley statue and Usain Bolt.(Getty Images) By Adi Joseph—  Bob Costas told America on Sunday that Usain Bolt is a bigger deal in Jamaica than Bob Marley. “With apologies to all you reggae fans, I think Bolt has even outdistanced Marley,” Costas said on NBC after Bolt won his third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the 100 meter dash. This was all part of a bloviated attempt to make Americans care about Bolt beating an American, Justin Gatlin, through over-the-top hagiography. Of course, American sports fans and all other fans of the Olympics mostly love Bolt already (unless they hate him). Bringing Marley into it felt trite and unnecessary. Thankfully, Costas was speaking only of fame, not influence or impact. Still, … Read entire article »

THE MARLEYS HAVE MADE HISTORY ON THE CHART!

By Clinton Lindsay— The first chart I compiled was on Thursday, October 30, 1975.
