FAMED AMERICAN ENGINEER’S LOVE AFFAIR WITH REGGAE MUSIC!

NEW YORK-BASED PRODUCER PHILLIP THOMAS TO RELEASE NEW SONGS FROM DENNIS BROWN!

 By Brian Bonitto—  Top: Dennis Brown— Bottom: Phillip A Thomas— NEARLY two decades after Dennis Brown’s death, American producer Phillip A Thomas is releasing what is believed to be the reggae singer’s last recordings. The three-track EP, Rock On, is produced on Thomas’s New York-based D Phil Productions. It is scheduled to be released on December 18. “They’re all new songs… and I think his fans will enjoy them. I think it’s the perfect time to release them,” Thomas, 40, told the Jamaica Observer. According to the producer, the tracks are Baby It’s You, the acoustic Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and the title track. TONY GOLD IS BACK WITH “ROCK ME BABY!”

LEGENDARY PRODUCER WINSTON “NINEY THE OBSERVER” HOLNESS TO RECEIVE NATIONAL HONORS!

  Winston “Niney The Observer” Holness  WHILE he has earned a reputation as being one of reggae’s top producers by nurturing the careers of artists like Dennis Brown, Winston ‘Niney’ Holness is also known for his sense of humor. He addressed news of him being awarded the Order of Distinction (OD) in typical deadpan fashion. “Ah don’t know much ’bout dem things, but ah hear is something good. An’ once is something good I have no problem accepting it,” he told the Jamaica Observer. Holness will receive Jamaica’s sixth highest honor for his contribution to the development of Jamaican music in October at King’s House, where the annual investiture of National Awards and Honors take place. PATRICIA CHIN OF VP RECORDS GETS A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD!

Chin is the first female recipient of the award, presented by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM). LEGENDARY PRODUCER BUNNY LEE’S GORGON STUDIO GOES UP IN SMOKE!

 By Simone Morgan—  Veteran producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee points to a section of his studio that was destroyed by fire earlier this month. LEGENDARY music producer Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee’s Gorgon Entertainment Studio was destroyed by fire on March 9. According to the producer, all his music equipment valued at almost $100 million was lost in the blaze. The building, located in Duhaney Park in St Andrew, also houses a museum that contains Lee’s music archive. That section was spared. In an interview with the Jamaica Observer yesterday, Lee said his engineer Newton Williams was at the studio when the fire broke out.
