GT TAYLOR PLANS INTEGRATED CONCERT AND PARTY FOR DECEMBER 25!

SPONSORSHIP REMAINS UNCERTAIN FOR STING 2015!

By Mel Cooke—   Directors of Sting at a previous launch—-. Sponsorship woes are not new to Sting, and the 2015 staging is following a familiar pattern of uncertainty. Three months before the event, Supreme Promotions’ Isaiah Laing, Heavy D, and DiMario McDowell tell The Sunday Gleaner that there are no sponsorship arrangements. “Nobody is on board right now,” Laing said. Previous high-profile sponsors within the last decade have included white rum brand Rumfire, Guinness, LIME, Downsound Records, and Magnum. Laing puts the lack of external cash injection into Sting in the general context of funding dancehall at its purest. “Everybody neglect dancehall. The hardcore dancehall get neglected all the time. SIZZLA’S SON, MELEKU, RELEASES NEW SINGLE “RIGHT PLACE!”

By Kevin Jackson—-  Meleku— Eighteen-year-old reggae singer Meleku says he is bringing originality and individuality to the music. His debut single is entitled Right Place. Produced by Big 12 Productions, the single was released about a month ago. Meleku (real name Melek Collins) is the son of veteran reggae artiste Sizzla. Initially, he said he had no interest in doing music. But that changed over time. “As a child, I was more interested in sports, but my interest in music developed over a period of time because I was always seeing these different entertainers coming around,” Meleku told Jamaica Observer. AFTER AN EIGHT-YEAR BREAK, DESPERADO IS BACK WITH NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO!

 Desperado– AFTER a eight-year break from the industry, dancehall artist Desperado launched his latest video Turn Wid Yuh Liquor, featuring Tarnado, at the CPJ’s Cru Bar and Kitchen in St Andrew recently. The video is directed by Nordia Rose and shot locally. The occasion was supported by family and members of the entertainment fraternity. Words of encouragement came from Biggy, Devonte, Chico, Mama Mohina Cole, and dancer Aji. Released in February, the single Turn Wid Yuh Liquor is produced by Burro Instrumentals of Slam Records. The rhythm boasts the talents of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, as well as producer Lenky Marsden. SIZZLA TO LEAD THE AUGUST TOWN EMANCIPATION BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS!

The artist is spearheading month-long celebrations for the August Town Emancipation Birthday, commemorating 177 years since the St Andrew community was officially established. “It is paramount that we remind the youths of the community where they are from and the rich history and tradition which they must uphold. They must be aware of the strong links to the fight against slavery as the original settlers in these lands came from the Mona and Papine plantations… so we just need to re-education the community so they know where they are coming from so as to chart the course forward,” said Sizzla. The project, which has Havana Meets Kingston as a working title, was conceived by Jake Savona, an Australian who has worked with a number of Jamaican artistes since 2004. The musicians — renowned drum-and-bass team of Sly and Robbie, guitarist Winston ‘Bo Pee’ Bowen, percussionist Bongo Herman and singer Leroy Sibbles — are scheduled to record with Cuban musicians over 10 days. It hears York working with established and emerging acts. “The concept is me being the artist/producer who makes the beats and get the best songs with talented artists from the Caribbean. SIZZLA LOCKED UP AFTER “CUSSING OUT” COPS IN A PERFORMANCE AT THE FALMOUTH POLICE STATION!

Sizzla—  Dancehall artist Miguel Collins, more popularly known as Sizzla Kolanji, has been charged for using expletives onstage during a performance at the Falmouth Police Station early yesterday morning. Sizzla had been invited in good faith to perform at the station for an entertainment event organised by the police Community Safety & Security Branch, a community outreach arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. However, on entering the stage, his opening sentence was reportedly laced with expletives as he berated the police. The police, who had invited the artist, did not turn a blind eye to his performance and he was taken from the stage and charged. GREAT PERFORMANCES CLOSE REBEL SALUTE 2015!

Reggae harmony trio Mighty Diamonds showed exactly what made them hot during the 1970s and ’80s with a well-received set. Their vocals were flawless and sounded no different from their recordings when they belted out the lyrics to Have Mercy, Pass the Kouchie, I Need a Roof and When the Right Time Come. As expected, Freddie McGregor hit his marker on stage and gave his fans a classical set.
